Playing Games.
(Harper, Gilmour)

I wonder how I'm gonna be able to live
With you and me or without us both
Sometimes I feel so much more I can give
There must be someplace nearer the truth.

Playin' games you don't believe
Tellin' me you want to leave
What you tryin' to achieve
With so little up your sleeve?

It kinda feels like everything's passing so fast
Keepin' myself straight as this track
You spend the lifetime worryin' that it won't last
Makin' me run 'til I come runin' back.

Playin' games you don't believe
Tellin' me you want to leave
What you tryin' to achieve
With so little up your sleeve?

I am so selfish I can't see my own selfishness
Why d'you cling like glue in a glove?
How do I hold myself back - Do I settle for less?
When everyday I'm fallin' in love.

Playin' games you don't believe
Tellin' me you want to leave
What you tryin' to achieve
With so little up your sleeve?

Playin' games you don't believe
Tellin' me you want to leave
What you tryin' to achieve
With so little up your sleeve?

Playin' games you don't believe
Tellin' me you want to leave
What you tryin' to achieve
With so little up your sleeve?

I'm In Love With You.
(Harper)

Time was when you haunted me
In my every stride
Fantasy for company
Joy I couldn't hide
And happen what may
Changes beyond our say
Oh now that I've found you
I'm not walking round you love
Hearing you say
I'm in love with you, my love
I'm in love with you.

I see children on my knee
But there's no one there
Running daydreams thoughtfully
With fingers through your hair
Not wishing away
The days 'til come what may
Oh now that I've found you
I'm not walking round you love
Hearing you say
I'm in love with you, my love
I'm in love with you.

The Flycatcher.
(Harper)

As I walked over North Botley copse
I saw a fine lady ghost across the tops
With a ring on her finger and the wings on her toes
She can have music wherever she goes
Those were the days in the cradle of our love
Those are the days I dream of sweetly
Those were the days and I thank the stars above
The flycatcher, the cherry tree, the chestnut coal fire sea
As the last hope of sunshine embers on the hill
At the end of all the rainbows where the timeless legends dwell
A ghostly coach and four love, storms the midnight rain
As silently aurora almightly refrains
Those were the days in the cradle of our love
Those are the days I dream of sweetly
Those were the days and I thank the stars above
The flycatcher, the cherry tree, the chestnut coal fire sea.

You (The Game Part II).
(Harper, Gilmour)

You, my daring time traveller
You, love dwelling discoverer
You, you open the doors for me
And let me in
I come.

You, my deep secret accomplices
You, who endure my injustices
You, you reward me kind likenesses
Bearing gifts
Of home.

To new dimensions in the zoo
Helpless lovers follow you
Only you.

You, my dear old companion
You, my fairest opinion
You, my sweet faithful perfection
Homin' in
Come on.

You, from my seeds of eternity
You, always gently in front of me
You, you're so soft deep inside of me
And like a rock - I come

To new dimensions in the zoo
Helpless lovers follow you
Only you
Only you
Only you.

Old Faces.
(Harper, Gilmour)

Old faces acquaintances
Re-appearing disguised as is
Blue rivers of smokey rooms climb
Relieving good ghosts of those times.

And where were you, where was I?
Sitting, counting the colours by
Giant red rizlas to go we've been
Was it ever to paradise green.

But I love you, my own true friend
You, who thought you could rearrange the end
How does it feel to be terribly near?
Verging long voyages onward from here.

Old faces acquaintances
I'll live on with you none the less
Giant red rizlas to go we've been
Circling round over paradise green.

Yellow and purple and emerald blue
Waiting for someone and hoping for you
Scenery shifting and moving the view
Spiking the sugar lumps right through.

But I love you my own true friends
You who waste away in these ends
Wherein your state is adjusting to speed
Spiritual eloquence far beyond need.

Old faces acquaintances
All abiding the sliding years
Everyone caught in the washing machine
Circling round over paradise green.

Old faces callin' me back
Old faces acquaintances
Memories callin' me back.

Short and Sweet.
(Harper, Gilmour)

You ask what is the quality of life
Seeking to justify the part you play
And mask, what seems a worthless fate
To strive, to make it any more or less than short and sweet.

And you, you are a fantasy, a view
From where you'd like to think the world should see
Be true and you will likely find a few
Building a vision doing justice to your time.

And we, we, the immoral men, we dare
Naked and fearless in the elements
We're free, carefree from tempting fates, aware
And holding off the moral nightmare at the gates
In the garden.

But short, short is from you to me, as close
As we all hope to try to help it be
We're caught watching the darkened sky, who knows?
Helpless as time itself to hold the time of day.

And sweet, sweet as a mountain stream, beholds
Towards a new day breaking in the East
We'll meet as every future dream unfolds
And surely quality it is at very least
At very least.

First Thing in the Morning.
(Harper)

Yesterday the poppies sprang
From bodies of complaint
Heroes mown in thousands
To preserve a coat of paint.

That once was spread on thin air
And is consequently faint
Without it got to my time-zone
This evening.

And here's the future
Here and now for what it's worth
And hallelujah
There ain't a way this fool can leave this earth.

Round and round
Round and round
Round and round.

The company this evening
Are conveniently spaced
As not to rock the boat
On which they placed themselves in haste.

In rows of nuclear hutches
Watching boxes and disgraced
On board the sinking Mayflower
Of the conscience.

And here's the future
Here and now for what it's worth
And hallelujah
There ain't a way this fool can leave this earth.

First thing in the morning
When there ain't a place to go
Nowhere to get up to bade
Not a stroke to do.

I'll meet you undercover
And we'll make it nice and slow
To celebrate the passions
Of great fortune.

'Cause here's the future
Here and now for what it's worth
Hallelujah
There ain't a way I wanna leave this earth
There ain't a way
There ain't a way I wanna leave this earth.

Round and round
Round and round
Round and round.

The Unknown Soldier.
(Harper)

I am an old soldier
I've been in the wars
Backwards and forwards,
Creeping on all fours.

And I travel the pulses
Unseen and alone
Dogfights in the cosmos
Feeling the unknown.

And I laugh in my sleep
Sitting in the gutter
Picking dog-ends from the deep.

I am an old soldier
I see in your face
Times repeating
Uniforms in space.

Looking forward to Doomsday
Telepathy wars
Dogma daydreams
Imaginary doors.

And I laugh in my sleep
Sitting in the gutter
Picking dog-ends from the deep.

But in the night a little boy is dreaming mysteries
And looking after laughter with his sister climbing trees
And somewhere there's a button and a silent satellite
And a bastard who would press it and an everlasting night.

I'd hunt him like a tiger and I'd tear him to a shred
There's nowhere you can hide man
Me and the kids we'd feed you to the dead.

And I cry in my sleep
For all the hungry children
And the unbelieving sheep.

Ten Years Ago.
(Harper)

Well, the generations come
Hoy-polloy or chewing gum
Bad manners still in style
And a very low profile.

As the new wave rebel hoards
Scribble balls on notice boards
And the old wave hierarchy
Try to take 'em seriously
Because they have to.

Ten years ago
I was dreamin'.

Upstart youth and rebels all
Who have faded to the wall
Counting points of social scale
While our water brother whale.

Meets extinction on the seas
On a million wounded knees
While the tax man robs the poor
Like he's always done before
Whatever system.

Ten years ago
We were dreamin'.

There are men employing men
Employing men, employing men
Employing men, employing men
Who fill in forms, employing men.

That forms a queue of paperwork
Clear stretching out into the mirk
So that nine-tenths don't produce
Holding ransom calling truce
And looking dangerous.

Ten years ago
Were we dreamin'?
Ten years ago
Were we dreamin'?

Ten years ago
We were dreamin'
Yeah, yeah, yeah
No change.

True Story.
(Harper, Gilmour)

A band of thieves rode from the south
On horses shod in shining plate
And foaming at the mouth
Ten million ants a day had died
Under a clanking column of old checkmates
Fears glorified.

A band of cut-throats in the north
Heard rumours of this hoard of steel
And quickly sallied forth
With swords and families at their side
And no T.V. escape from poor Wallace's ordeal
Wounds still gaping so wide.

Among the thieves there ranked a lover
Not given over
To letting relationships suffer
And restlessly he charged this cut-throat chief
Who rose in his saddle and split the fool's head down the middle
Portending great relief.

Which both sides let to drown a power
Down drains of evolving solutions
Deciding for an hour
The leader of the thieves he fled to hide
Hotly pursued by his own last execution
His body on fire inside.

The swelling forces of our nature
Changing the surfaces of the planet's
Chemical nomenclature
Blows cool gases as continents slide
And wheat falls where the sticky iron shelf meets
The atmosphere outside.
